Tanglewood is a brand new game developed for the Sega Genesis console. It is an action puzzle platformer. It features a really beautify 16-bit art style and excellent pixel art animation. The music and sound effects transport you into the game. The game features a nearly non-existent UI, instead forcing the player to rely upon other cues, such as audio or visual changes in the environment.
Developer: Big Evil Corporation
“An original game for the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive)”
Released in August of this year on Steam and physical copies started shipping to Kickstarter backers in November.
“Set in the realm of Tanglewood, the game follows a young creature, Nymn, separated from the pack after the sun sets. Unable to get back to the safety of the family’s underground home, Nymn must find a way to survive the night terrors and get to morning. Tanglewood’s world is a dangerous one after dark; guiding Nymn you must use your skills of evasion, traps and trickery to defeat predators.”
Tanglewood was programmed in 68000 assembly language using original Sega development tools and processes from the 1990s. If you purchase the Steam version of the game, you can also export a ROM file to play on your Genesis emulator of choice (or load into a custom cart, like an Everdrive).
