It’s been a while, so let me explain what this blog is all about. I have a HUGE backlog. In order to play them all I put all 300+ games I own in a random list generator and am playing all games in order… this week it’s SAINT’S ROW: GAT OUTTA HELL
I love the Saints Row games. If you don’t know, the Saints Row games especially the latter games are basically Grand Theft Auto turned up to 11. Imagine the open world of Grand Theft Auto, but with a Dubstep Gun or Super Powers or Aliens. If that sounds interesting to you, you might want to check out the Saints Row series.
The latest game, and the one I played for the backlog is Saints Row: Gat Outta Hell. Gat Outta Hell was originally an expansion for Saints Row IV and thus it plays just like Saints Row IV. It’s also very short, so much so that the entire story feels rushed… but it’s a ton of fun.
The story is that YOU are Johnny Gat, lieutenant of a gang called the Saints. After an unfortunate accident with a Ouija Board you are sent to hell to marry Satan’s daughter. To get back to Earth, and free Hell from Satan’s iron grasp, you must gain allies such as Vlad the Impaler, Blackbeard, and Shakespeare and power up your angelic/satanic abilities.
The gameplay as I mentioned before is similar to Saints Row IV, or really any other open world game. You’re given a set of missions to complete, and you need to drive and shoot your way around a big city to complete them. The one thing that sets the game apart is the setting. Since you are in hell, you are given angelic flight, the power to summon demons to aid you, and guns inspired by the seven deadly sins… including the Gluttony Gun that shoots cake batter on enemies.
Yeah, it’s a weird game.
Basically, if you enjoyed the other Saints Row games specifically 3 and 4, you’ll like this short trip into hell… but for me, it was too similar to everything else in the Saints Row series to really stick with me.
Next Game: Sonic Spinball
