Urban Champion for the #NES | Nate’s RetroPlays

Urban Champion on the Nintendo Entertainment System is a 2 player fighting game where the object is to win a street fight against the other player.  With each blow you knock your opponent further back on the screen, eventually landing them (or yourself) in an open manhole cover.  The board is fairly sparse, but the occasional watcher from the windows above the street throw objects at the fighters.  Periodic patrol cars break the action and force the fighters back to their starting position.

The game was released on the Famicom in Japan in 1984 and made it’s way to North America in 1986.  The game was met with mixed reviews due to the simplicity and slowness of the action.  Despite that fact, it is considered by most to be one of the ‘classic’ NES games.
