What Happens When a Retro Revolution Enlists Fighting Amphibians?

So, my name is Jesse. Hi. I’ve been writing my retro-entertainment blog Retro Revelations since October 2012, so this is in fact more or less the third year anniversary of my bloggitory activities. I would have started years before I did, but for one crazy reason or another, even though I’ve long been a writer, I just never really thought of doing it until 2012.

In my blog, I write about all manner of old shit that I like, from movies, to animation, to comics and even things like books, toys, music, whatever. But I also have dedicated a good portion of my articles to video games, as they have been a significant part of my life since early childhood. Being born in 1981, my earliest memories or “game experiences”, were of seeing Pac-Man and Dig Dug, and various other classic “Golden Age” arcade games. We also had an old Tandy computer when I was very small, and my earlier home console experience was a hand-me-down Atari 2600. But it wasn’t until late 1990, as I grew up fairly poor and was thus behind the curve, that I finally got my NES, that I went from liking video games, to falling in love with them. Super Mario Bros. became my first real video game obsession, and when I shortly after got Super Mario Bros. 3, all bets were off. I had my first true video game crush.

In point of fact, SMB3 is still to this day my favorite game of all time, and even though I have owned and played many other consoles and many other games in my life since, through my teens and on up through those treacherous adult years, the NES is still my favorite console of all time. While the SNES is a very close second, specifically because of it’s wealth of great rpgs and action games, for this man’s money, the Nintendo Entertainment System is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest console to ever exist. There is just something classic and timeless about it, and while like all popular gaming consoles, it certainly has it’s share of crap and “shovelware” (which wouldn’t actually become a term till decades later), it also just has SUCH a rich library of classics, SO many classic games and franchises that either started on NES or got popular on NES, such as: Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Castlevania, Metal Gear, TMNT, Contra, Double Dragon, Adventure Island, Kirby’s Adventure, Star Tropics, RC Pro Am, Punch Out, Tecmo Bowl, Battletoads, Dragon Quest/Warrior, Final Fantasy, and so many others.

So anyway, I shall be sharing many RR articles I have written here, because they deserve a wider audience, and I feel (hope) are good enough to get a second life. I will also likely be sharing unique content like this as well, even if it’s just some random, passing thoughts about gaming-related things.

So here’s to #TheFroggening, and let’s all make it memorable, and fun to be a part of. Cheers!

P.S. Just in case anyone ever wonders, Godzilla is basically the unofficial RR mascot, so I tend to use old school Godzilla graphics to rep the blog. 🙂
